Body Protection Signs
Body protection signs are a visual reminder of the need to use personal protective equipment (PPE) and protective clothing in the workplace. These are necessary to protect against a range of potential hazards including; extreme temperatures (both high and low); weather (wet, snow, ice, ultraviolet light); chemical splashes; metal splashes; electrical dangers (arc and anti-static); spray from pressure leaks; impact or penetration injuries); excessive wear and tear; and entanglement of personal clothing.
The body protection products are outlined in the Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 1992. Bodywear can include safety harnesses, life jackets, labcoats, barrier gowns, high visibility clothing (also known as hi-viz or hi-vis), fire retardant clothing and aprons. These categories include jackets, vests, bodywarmers, sweatshirts, overalls, coveralls, trousers, leggings, boilersuits and bib and brace.
These mandatory safety signs are manufactured to comply with the harmonised standard EN 7010, and the Signs and Safety Regulations 1996, covering the symbol or pictogram, colour, and layout.
Other guidelines are included in the Work at Height Regulations 2005 for above and below ground activities covering safety harnesses, fall arrest equipment, work positioning and rope access, and cover industries of use such as building, construction, plant maintenance, roofing, window cleaning, aircraft maintenance, telecommunications and utilities.
