As we welcome back sunny days and warmer weather, more people are taking the opportunity to unwind at leisure centres, pools, or even spas.

If you’re behind the operations of these venues, now would be the perfect time for a full refresh – ensuring everything is in ship shape, including public area signs.

Here, we have rounded up five signs you should consider if you have pool, hot tub, or spa facilities.

Swimming Pool Safety Signs

Indoor pools and lidos are a crowd-pleaser during warmer days, but these areas also come with a range of risks you need to communicate clearly.

Safety signs for swimming pools should include shallow and deep water indicators, emergency guidance, and first aid, as well as whether there’s a lifeguard on duty.

Along with providing essential information, water safety signs can also issue relevant prohibitions, including ‘No diving’, ‘No running’, and ‘Children Must Be Supervised’.

In addition to helping visitors safely enjoy your venue, pool warning signs can be a legal requirement, whether as part of a leisure centre or a hotel fitness zone.

Spa Safety Signs

While spas and wellness centres are normally more tranquil than a public swimming pool, there are still various safety warnings you’d need to include in these areas.

Spa warning signs can range from hydration reminders, medical condition warnings, and maximum occupancy, to ‘No Eating or Drinking’ or ‘No Glassware’ labels and even pre/post-use shower signage.

Emergency alert instructions, such as ‘Alarm Pull Cord’ can also be handy near saunas or other facilities where people might feel faint.

Looking after the health and safety of your wellness centre guests would not only keep your business compliant with regulations but also ensure they’re getting the most out of their visit.

Hot Tub Warning Signs

Whether it’s paired with the pool area, included as a hydrotherapy spot in the spa, or even offered as a luxury in a hotel room, a jacuzzi would need its own set of hot tub warning signs to guide users and keep them safe.

Consider advising guests on a maximum time limit, warning of the high temperature of the water, and usage restrictions (e.g. no unsupervised children, pregnancy, medical conditions, or recreational substances).

If the hot tub is in a public area, this is another spot to encourage the use of communal showers before entering and signposting them.

Changing Room Signage

Another key element of ensuring the best visitor experience across your facilities is clearly signposted changing rooms. From splitting out female changing and male changing spaces to numbering available lockers, those signs should make usage as simple as possible.

Other things to consider changing room signage for include showers, toilets, exits, and the way to reception.

Wet Floor Signs

Last, but not least, any public area where splashing and dripping from the pool, jacuzzi, or spa might occur – including the reception area or changing rooms – should be kitted out with the appropriate wet floor signs.

The two main types of anti-slip signage you’d most likely need in a leisure facility are the more permanent ‘Slippery surface when wet’ sign, and the ‘Warning wet floor’ a-board for bigger splashes that need attention.
