Most businesses will have some sort of water pipes located on the premises, whether you're based in an office building or an industrial site, the chances of a water pipe being on site is very high. However, if you have multiple water pipes, it can be hard to distinguish one pipe from the other. It's important that each of your water pipes are easily identifiable to reduce the risk of an accident.

Here at label Source we have an excellent selection of Pipeline Identification Labels and Flow Labels to ensure that each pipe easily identifiable and that you're aware of the direction of the flow. These Water Pipe Labels allow you to reinforce safety procedures needed in relation to the contents of the pipe.

Here are the Water Pipe Labels we have to offer here at Label Source:

Pipeline Identification Labels

These labels can be used on painted pipework, plain coloured tapes, or at connection points. These labels have made out of transparent or clear self-adhesive vinyl and have printed black lettering to ensure that the label is clear and noticeable. These labels are supplied in packs of 25, and the range includes labels for hot water, cooling water, and many more. To view our range of pipeline identification labels, please click here.

Pipeline Flow Labels

Our range of Pipeline Flow Labels will help you to identify the contents of a pipe, as well as informing you of the direction of the flow and any relevant hazard warning symbols associated with the contents. To inform the flow of the contents of the pipe, rip off the unnecessary arrow and place the label on the pipe. These labels are manufactured from self-adhesive polyester and are colour coded to BS1710 and BS4800 to comply with the pipe work standards. Our range of pipeline flow labels includes drinking water, hot water, cooling water and many more. To view our range of Pipeline Flow Labels, please click here

We don't just have Water Pipe Labels; we also have an excellent selection of Water Pipe Identification Tape - to view this range click here.

If there are visible pipes on your premises and those pipes contain potentially hazardous substances, you are required by UK law to ensure that the pipes are clearly labelled to warn people of each pipe's contents. The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996 state the following:

"Visible pipes in the workplace containing or transporting hazardous substances and mixtures should generally be labelled with the relevant pictograms in accordance with CLP Regulation."

If you have unlabelled pipes in your building, we recommend using our pipeline flow labels to mark your pipes and ensure that you are meeting your occupational health and safety obligations.

Pipeline Flow Labels

We sell flow labels for all kinds of different pipelines - our range covers everything from different types of water (e.g. Hot WaterChlorinated Water) to hazardous chemicals such as Phosphoric Acid. Each self-adhesive label is printed with the name of the susbtance inside the pipe, and the range is also colour-coded to make identification even quicker. For example, the labels for water pipes are coloured green, air pipe labels are light blue, hazardous chemicals are purple, and so on.

These labels also make it easy to identify the direction of the pipe's flow. Each label has a detachable arrow on either end; when applying the label, you can simply tear off the arrow you don't need to show which way the pipe's contents are flowing. This quick visual indicator makes the nature of each pipe even clearer, and may come in handy for plumbers and/or service personnel.

Sulphuric Acid Flow Label

Labels corresponding to hazardous substances/mixtures include hazard triangle pictograms, ensuring that your pipes meet the requirements set out in The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996.

Pipe identification

Labelling your pipes is important for a number of reasons. It makes life easier for service personnel, but more importantly, it allows you to warn of any potential hazards. For example, if your pipes carry toxic substances or dangerous gases, this should be identified using the appropriate pipe identification tape.

Pipelines need to be labelled in a number of key locations. The list below is by no means exhaustive - additional pipe labels or signage may be necessary depending on your circumstances - but it should give you a rough idea of what's required.

Pipes must be labelled at the following points:

  • At the point of entry to, and exit from, any tanks, manifolds, hose connections, and elevated pipe racks
  • Adjacent to any control valves, flow meters, and pumps
  • Along straight lengths of pipework (with no more than 8 metres between each marking)
  • Within 1 metre of passing through walls, perimeter fencing, the ground, and any other barriers
  • At tee connections and other fittings
  • Any other locations that have been assessed as possible hazards
